As an artist, it’s sometimes helpful and relaxing to create something “just for you”, without any agendas or specific vision other than the one in your own mind. Luke and I moved here to FL in the fall of 2015, and during the last two years, I haven’t been as diligent as I’d like to be about dreaming up and creating those personal projects. That started to change earlier this summer, though, when I asked my best friend Kim if she might be willing to model for me for a styled portrait shoot that I had in mind, one filled with heaps of warm light, a flowy dress, beautiful, feminine florals, and a few tasty treats. She graciously agreed, and this lovely downtown, summertime St. Petersburg portrait session is the final result!
And now for some #reallife behind-the-scenes confessions from this shoot! 😉
– Almost all of the beautiful landscaping and views behind her are the property of a for-sale home in a neighborhood with reeeaaaaallly great curb appeal and cobblestone streets.
– I made her bouquet the morning of our session and we tried hard to keep it from wilting by carrying it around to all of our locations in a mason jar.
– We were both covered in bites from the crazy summer bugs following us everywhere.
– And last but not least, all the pretty styled desserts at the end were actually photographed on Kim’s back porch!
I can’t tell you how much fun it was to spend time behind the camera just getting to be creative and trying out new posts/angles/shots that I’ve been dreaming of or wanting to re-create. And getting to do it all with my stunning (on inside as well as the outside) best friend who was literally up for anything and SO flexible and patient? Priceless! ?
