I’m writing this from our little home office/guest room upstairs, feeling all the feels as I watch Katelyn James teach about personalized branding and defining your business. Let me explain why. Two posts ago, I briefly mentioned how Luke and I are working hard to pay off Sallie Mae so we can become completely debt free, which we want for a whole host of reasons (we don’t want to live as “slave to the lender”, we want to control our money-not the other way around, and we are hungry to give generously and abundantly without being constrained by a tight budget, just to name a few). During this season of “living like no one else so later we can live and give like no one else”, we are intentionally very tight with our finances so we can make this whole paying-it-ALL-off process as fast as possible. I am 100% on board with this, love the structure our budget provides for spending, saving, etc, and am so excited about having a life-and now a business-that is debt free (!!!!). I’m humbled to admit, though, that this is all a little challenging for me when it comes down to actually investing in the business, because I’m finding out how easily I can get caught up in feeling like I’m missing out on resources because they’re just not in the budget right now (though I know one day soon they will be). This whole “learning to be content” thing can be so darn difficult, right?! Phew.
Which brings me to today, tucked away in the aforementioned second bedroom with all my feels, watching Jesus speak right to this broken area of my heart 🙂 Today, I set aside time to watch a few online videos offered for free by The Academy, as a preview of their comprehensive certificate program…which obviously costs something and is on the “Business Dream List” for sometime in the next two years or so, once we are totally debt free. What a great thing for this new little business owner’s heart, though, to be able to watch a few sessions now, even though I can’t enroll yet! There are so many fantastic ones available, but today, I’m completely smitten with the way Katelyn shares about being an intentional business owner and marketer of your brand. She speaks truth with hope, love with courage, and dreams without fear. And for me…the girl sitting upstairs wondering if it will all come together, if her dreams are too big, if she has what it takes…that is a priceless gift.
